Chocolate-mint flavor, made your way

Cacao creates a rich chocolate base, while Minty Lavender Matcha brings green tea and cool peppermint, with lavender in the background. Vanilla rounds out the flavor, and a pinch of sea salt brings the cacao forward. The result is a creamy chocolate mint matcha latte you can make at home without a separate chocolate or mint syrup.

Thin Mint Matcha Latte Recipe

Makes: 1 large latte or 2 small servings
Serve: Hot, with an iced variation below
You’ll need: A whisk, two small saucepans, and a large mug; a frother is optional.

Cacao base

  • ½ cup milk of choice
  • 2 tablespoons Organic Cacao Powder · 500g
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup, or sweetener to taste
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt

Minty matcha layer

Optional finish: Whipped cream + dark chocolate shavings.

How to make it

  1. Make the cacao base. In a small saucepan, whisk ½ cup milk with the cacao, maple syrup, vanilla, and sea salt. Warm gently to 150–160°F, whisking until smooth. Do not boil.
  2. Prepare the matcha layer. In a separate saucepan, gently warm 1 cup milk. Sift in the Minty Lavender Matcha, whisk until smooth, and froth if desired.
  3. Layer + finish. Pour the cacao base into a large mug. Slowly add the matcha milk over the back of a spoon for a layered effect; the layers may naturally blend. Add optional whipped cream and chocolate shavings, then stir before sipping.

Make it iced

Prepare both layers as above, then let them cool. Fill a large glass with ice, add the cacao base, and slowly pour the matcha milk over the back of a spoon. Stir before drinking. For two smaller iced lattes, divide both mixtures between two glasses.

Small details that make a better latte

  • Keep the heat gentle. Warm milk blends smoothly without needing to boil.
  • Whisk out the lumps. Sift the matcha blend and whisk the cacao thoroughly for a smoother texture.
  • Choose your texture. Oat milk gives a creamy finish; almond or coconut milk changes the flavor. Use the milk you enjoy.
  • Sweeten to taste. Start with less maple syrup if you prefer a darker chocolate flavor, then adjust after stirring.
  • Let the layers be natural. Milk choice, temperature, and pouring speed affect the appearance. It tastes just as good blended.

Questions about this matcha latte

Does it contain caffeine?

Yes. Matcha contains caffeine, and cacao also contributes a smaller amount. The total depends on the ingredients and serving size; this is not a caffeine-free drink.

Can I make it dairy-free or vegan?

Use plant-based milk and, if adding toppings, dairy-free whipped cream and vegan dark chocolate. Check the labels of your chosen ingredients.

Is it sugar-free?

No. The recipe includes maple syrup, which contains sugar, and milk or toppings may contain additional sugar. Adjust or omit the added sweetener to suit your taste.

Can I use plain matcha instead?

Plain matcha will change the flavor and will not provide the same mint-forward flavor. This recipe is written for Eleven TLC Minty Lavender Matcha; do not substitute plain matcha tablespoon for tablespoon. Follow the serving guidance on its packaging and adjust to taste.
